Welcome To Growcocoa Initiative (GCI)
Protecting Our Future Through Sustainable Cocoa Farming.
The Grow Cocoa Initiative empowers cocoa farmers, promotes sustainable agriculture, combats illegal mining (galamsey), and inspires young people to see agriculture as a pathway to prosperity while protecting Ghana’s environment for future generations.
Why Grow Cocoa Initiative?
Cocoa is more than a crop — it is a source of livelihood for thousands of farming families and an important part of Ghana’s economy. Yet, many cocoa farmers continue to face challenges such as declining farm productivity, aging cocoa farms, climate change, cocoa diseases, limited access to resources, and the growing threat of illegal mining (galamsey).
Grow Cocoa Initiative is to help address these challenges by supporting cocoa farmers, promoting sustainable cocoa production, and inspiring young people to see cocoa farming as a meaningful and rewarding opportunity.
We believe that when cocoa farmers thrive, communities thrive.
Our goal is to work with farmers, communities, young people, organizations, and partners to:
- Support cocoa farmers to improve productivity and livelihoods.
- Promote sustainable and climate‑smart cocoa farming.
- Encourage young people to become involved in cocoa production.
- Educate communities about the harmful effects of illegal mining on cocoa farms, water bodies, and the environment.
- Help protect Ghana’s cocoa‑growing areas for future generations.
- Build partnerships that create lasting opportunities for cocoa farmers and their communities.
A future where every cocoa farming community in Ghana is prosperous, environmentally sustainable, and driven by empowered farmers and youth who choose agriculture over illegal mining.
Together, we can grow cocoa, protect our environment, and grow a better future.
